Rishabh Ranganathan was initiated into carnatic music at tender age by Shri. Akella Mallikarjuna Sharma (Eminent Musicologist from Hyderabad, India). Since 2012, he has been learning ‘Parur’ style of violin playing from Parur M.S.Ananthakrishnan and since 2019, he is taking additional violin training from Parur M.A.Sundareswaran. In addition, he is trained in vocal carnatic music by  Mayavaram Sisters Smt. Gita Ramasubramanian. Besides, he is also trained in Western Classical Violin by Ms.Patrycja Glowik, IL (USA).

 

Rishabh has a strong musical family lineage, being a fourth-generation descendant of  Shri. Marthuvakudi Rajagopala Iyer. His great grand-father Shri. Korukkai R Ramamurthy Iyer was a great harmonium exponent and musician in namasankeerthanam tradition.

Gurus:

Rishabh is the winner of the title ‘Carnatic Music Idol – USA’ in the sub-junior (vocal) category organized by Jaya TV in 2013. He was the first runner-up for Carnatic Music Idol 2014 (Instrumental) – USA 2014 and Sangeeth Bala Samraat 2015 – Instrumental USA (Shankara TV) .  He was the winner of the prestigious Concert Competition at Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival in 2018. He has won several prizes in competitions held by Cleveland Tyagaraja Aradhana, Chicago Tyagaraja Utsavam, Ariyakudi & KVN Memorial Trust, Sivan Fine Arts Academy and others.

Rishabh has given violin-solo, vocal and accompaniment performances in venues such as Bharat Kalachar, Brahma Gana Sabha, Chennai Cultural Academy, Cleveland Thyagaraja Festival, Hamsadhwani, Karthik Fine Arts, Narada Gana Sabha, Ponni Kalakendra, Rasika Ranjani Sabha, Sampradaya (Hyderabad), Sri Krishna Gana Sabha,  Sri Thyaga Brahma Gana Sabha, Trinity Music Festival, Sampradaya, Carnatica, Shri Parathasarathy Swami Sabha), iCarnatic’s Youth Carnatic Musical Festival and SAPNA, USA. He was chosen as an India Raga Fellow in 2015, 2018 and 2019.

Rishabh has been fortunate to accompany and collaborate with several leading musicians including Vidwans Palghat Ramprasad, Kalyanapuram Aravind, Shankaran Namboothiri, Chitravina Ganesh, Krithika Natarajan, Vasuda Ravi, G. Abilash, R.P Shravan, Rukmini Ramani, Ashok Ramani, among others. He has given over 400+ performances all over USA and in India.

He is currently a rising junior at Hinsdale Central High School, IL (USA). Articles about him and his music performances have been published in popular press such as The Hindu, The Times of India, Indian Express, Makkal Kural and Trinity Mirror. His performances have appeared in Jaya TV, Kalaignar Asia TV, Shri Venkateswara Bhakthi Channel and Shankara TV.
